USA-Mexico Test for New Generation
The USA-Mexico match in Arizona, though technically a home game, will feel like an away encounter with 60,000+ fans expected to support Mexico. This exhibition serves as crucial preparation for future World Cup qualifiers in hostile environments, as the US hasn't won a competitive match in Mexico in nearly 80 years.
Coach Pochettino is using this match to test young players who impressed against South American opponents. The match is described as 'like a Cup Final' in its importance, with the atmosphere potentially putting the US 'down 1-nil' before kickoff, according to the coach. chincha.pl
Michigan vs. Minnesota Prediction, Odds, Picks for College Football Week 5
The Minnesota Golden Gophers host the Michigan Wolverines in a Big 10 showdown Saturday in a Week 5 college football matchup on FOX. Head coach Kyle Whittingham and the Wolverines were on the wrong end of a last-second touchdown last week, falling 20-19 to No. 14 Iowa. Michigan is now unranked for the second time in three weeks. Quarterback Bryce Underwood threw for the second-most yards of his career, but the offense couldn’t put the game away with two minutes remaining. Now, the Wolverines must regroup as they leave Ann Arbor for the first time this season. Minnesota head coach P.J. Fleck may have gotten a little carried away celebrating the Golden Gophers 27-24 win over Washington last week, smearing one of his players’ blood on his face. But, Minnesota is 3-1 for the second straight season and has a chance to open conference play 2-0. Let’s take a look at the odds for Michigan vs. Minnesota at FanDuel Sportsbook as of Oct 3. Moneyline Spread Over/Under From FOX Sports Research: Minnesota scored at least 27 points in just three conference games last season and finished with exactly 27 in its conference opener this year. Now, its middle-of-the-pack offense faces a Michigan defense that hasn’t allowed more than 21 points in a game this season. The Wolverines are allowing the seventh-fewest yards in the country (236.3 per game) and just 14.8 points per game. Michigan’s offense hasn’t been a high-scoring machine either. The Wolverines average 25.3 points per game, the second-fewest in the Big Ten ahead of only Michigan State. Underwood and the offense have topped 20 points just once, against UTEP. With Michigan’s dominant defense and both offenses struggling to score consistently, expect a classic, low-scoring Big Ten matchup. NFL fines Quinn Meinerz $14,926 for a celebratory dice roll
Broncos right guard Quinn Meinerz celebrated with Jaylen Waddle after the wide receiver's 2-point conversion on Sunday. He playfully "waddled" over to offer his congratulations, and the teammates then pantomimed a dice roll.
“I got fined,’’ Meinerz told Mike Klis of 9News. “We were playing Yahtzee. They didn’t like we were playing Yahtzee.”
In 2017, the NFL announced that it had no problem with celebratory dice rolls. A spokesperson at the time said the league "isn't in a place to determine" whether players were referring to Yahtzee or backgammon.
The league fined Meinerz $14,926 for what the league deemed an illegal celebration. It seems likely the NFL fined Waddle the same amount.
Meinerz said he will appeal.
After the Broncos' second 2-point conversion, Meinerz lifted Pat Bryant II off the ground with a two-arm, elbow-locked shiver.
“It’s fun to be back to who I am and I can breathe. I can see, I’m feeling good about life and where things are at,’’ Meinerz said. “So when I have the opportunity to use more of that energy to go celebrate with my teammates, why not? It’s hard to score, have fun with it.”
Liam Coen on Travis Hunter's usage: "He cares about winning"
Questions have persisted regarding whether the Jaguars are getting the most out of cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter, the second overall pick in the 2025 draft. Coach Liam Coen addressed the situation in simple terms on Friday.
"He cares about winning," Coen said, "That's what he cares about. Like, and all the other stuff, the reps, where we picked him, does that — I don't give two Fs about value. And neither does he. We care about winning. And that's it."
That's not what Hunter said in an August appearance on The Pivot podcast. He said he wants to play both sides of the ball, on a full-time basis.
“If I’m trying to be the best — how are you gonna be the best, if you ain’t trying to be the best?" Hunter said at the time. "If you ain’t trying to compete and do the best to be the best? So my main focus is be the best. So I’m gonna do everything I can do to be the best. I don’t want to be the best at one position. There’s a lot of people that’s the best at one position. Ain’t nobody yet been the best at both, full-time. . . .
"I cannot sit on the sideline. I don’t think nobody’s noticed that yet. I hate the sidelines. I do not wanna sit there. I can’t sit there and just watch football. I’ve got to be on the field.”
The fact that the Jaguars are winning makes it harder for Hunter to gripe about his usage, which is increasing on the defensive side of the ball but which continues to be cameo appearances, at best, on offense. But he's on the record with his wishes.
And, yes, it's fair to ask about value. Especially given the glowing remarks G.M. James Gladstone made after the Jaguars traded up from No. 5 to No. 2 to get him.
“This is something I’m uniquely positioned to navigate," Gladstone said in April 2025. "We ended up bringing Travis Hunter to Jacksonville, and with that, he is somebody who is deserving of a first-round draft pick as a wide receiver, and he is worthy of a first-round draft pick as a corner. Certainly, look forward to each of those elements showing themselves over the next few years while he is under his rookie contract."
While the Jaguars have emerged as an elite team, the stated vision for Hunter has yet to come to fruition. And it seems that no one wants that to happen more than him.
