La croissance tombe à 3 % face à une inflation qui menace d'atteindre 10,1 %
L'économie malagasy s'achemine vers une fin d'année sous tension, entre une croissance moins dynamique qu'attendu et des pressions inflationnistes persistantes. Selon le Rapport sur la politique monétaire publié récemment par Banky Foiben'i Madagasikara (BFM), la croissance économique nationale est estimée à 3 % en 2026, alors que la Loi de finances rectificative (LFR) prévoit 3,8 %. Pour atteindre la prévision gouvernementale, une accélération de l'activité au second semestre sera nécessaire.
La situation des entreprises illustre cette fragilité. Au deuxième trimestre, l'activité des entreprises formelles est restée en recul. L'Indicateur synthétique des activités des entreprises (IAE) s'est établi à -5,3 %, contre -39,9 % au premier trimestre. Si la contraction s'est considérablement atténuée, elle touche encore la plupart des catégories d'entreprises. Seules les grandes entreprises ont enregistré un léger rebond au cours de la période.
À l'échelle de l'économie nationale, les signaux sont cependant plus encourageants. L'Indicateur infra-annuel d'activité économique (IIAE) a progressé de 4,8 % par rapport au trimestre précédent. En glissement annuel, l'amélioration reste toutefois modeste, à seulement 0,3 %. Les perspectives du troisième trimestre font apparaître une possible reprise de l'activité des entreprises formelles, principalement soutenue par les secteurs primaire et tertiaire. Cette reprise attendue risque néanmoins de se heurter à un obstacle majeur : l'accélération de l'inflation. Après s'être établie à 6,8 % à fin mars, la hausse des prix en glissement annuel a atteint 8,6 % en juin. L'inflation sous-jacente s'est, quant à elle, hissée à 11,4 %, traduisant des pressions qui ne se limitent pas aux composantes volatiles comme le riz et l'énergie.
Les projections pour la fin de l'année sont encore plus préoccupantes. BFM estime que l'inflation globale pourrait atteindre 10,1 % en décembre 2026, contre 9,3 % dans sa précédente prévision. Les prix du riz progresseraient de 7 %, ceux de l'énergie de 9,7 %, tandis que l'inflation sous-jacente atteindrait encore 11 %. En moyenne annuelle, l'inflation globale serait de 8,5 %.
Pour tenter de contenir cette poussée des prix, le Comité monétaire a décidé de relever le taux directeur de 12 % à 12,5 %. La mesure vise notamment à préserver la stabilité financière et à ramener progressivement l'inflation vers l'objectif de moyen terme fixé à 5 %.
Le pays conserve néanmoins des marges de résistance sur le front extérieur. Les réserves officielles de change ont atteint 3,676 milliards de dollars à fin juin, soit l'équivalent de sept mois d'importations. Durant le premier semestre, l'ariary s'est également apprécié de 7 % face au dollar et de 9,3 % face à l'euro.
Les prochains mois seront donc déterminants. Entre une activité des entreprises encore fragile, une croissance estimée à 3 % contre les 3,8 % inscrits dans la LFR et une inflation susceptible de dépasser 10 %, le défi sera de consolider la reprise sans laisser la hausse des prix éroder davantage le pouvoir d'achat et la dynamique économique.

Siya Kolisi excited to face old foes Matera, Lavanini
Springbok captain Siya Kolisi said he was excited to play his first Test of the season, and more so because it will be against familiar foes in the Argentina line-up.
Kolisi missed the first three Nations Championship Tests due to a hamstring strain, but is now one of five Springbok players set to return from injury in their one-off Test in Buenos Aires on Saturday night (kick-off 9.10pm).
The others are Eben Etzebeth, Lood de Jager, Morné van den Berg and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
In the build-up, coach Rassie Erasmus said Kolisi was the one player he was least worried about finding his feet again – the 35-year-old being no stranger to injuries, and making returns before the 2019 and 2023 World Cups.
Kolisi not putting pressure on himself
“I feel good,” Kolisi said, adding that his hamstring felt strong after two weeks of training.
“I’m excited. I just don’t want to put any pressure on myself. I want to go out there and do what I can do, just play my part in the team.”
He said he expected a tough game, so no additional motivation was needed. Still, it was good to return will players had had played with for a long time.
On the opposite side of the field, fellow blindside flanker Pablo Matera will lead a young Argentine side featuring four debutants against the Springboks.
“Pablo and I kind of started at a similar time. He’s someone I respect very much,” Kolisi said.
“He’s an amazing player. He can fight at the breakdown, and he can carry the ball very well.
“He’s a very passionate guy who led the team for a couple of years until Julian [Montoya] took over, and I know the boys will follow him. They’ve always looked up to him.”
All business on the field
Kolisi said it was always a challenge playing against a leader like that, who loved his country.
“He plays for his people. He’s a good guy off the field, too. I love talking to him after a game. I’ve met his kids.”
Kolisi said the Springboks get on well with the Argentinian side, but when they’re on the field, it’s all business.
“They really fight for the people, and the crowd get behind them, and they use that to get them going.
“I know he [Matera] will be one of their key players. With Tomás Lavanini coming back, too, who’s someone that I started at a similar time with as well. I know how important it will be for him to come back and play for his country.
“So a couple of us are coming from injuries. But we also play against people we’ve played against before. It’s going to be a good challenge.”

The Springboks have insisted all week that their only focus is on Argentina, but there is no doubt that the upcoming four-Test series against the All Blacks will still have plenty of relevance in the greater scheme of things.
Among a host of returning players from injury, Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu will join the likes of Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, Lood de Jager and Morne van den Berg in the starting line-up.
“Not being able to help my team was frustrating, and the Springbok equation was even worse,” he said.
“But I used the time to look at the game from a more technical aspect, and develop in the areas that I probably didn’t have time to work on before. Obviously, it was disastrous when it happened and it wasn’t enjoyable, but I made the most of the time off.”
The Springboks-Argentina Test will be hosted at Estadio José Amalfitani in the Argentinean capital, kicks off at 21:00 (SA time) and will be broadcast live on SuperSport.
