Blue Jays Place Kirk on IL, Call Up Valenzuela

Alejandro Kirk was placed on the 10‑day injured list with a dislocated and fractured thumb, and the Blue Jays recalled catcher Brandon Valenzuela from Triple‑A Buffalo.

Kirk suffered a dislocated and fractured left thumb in the 10th inning of a 5‑4 loss to the Chicago White Sox on Friday when a foul ball struck his glove. He was placed on the 10‑day injured list Saturday and will see a hand specialist on Monday.

The Blue Jays recalled Brandon Valenzuela from Triple‑A Buffalo to fill the catching vacancy. They also assigned veteran pitcher Patrick Corbin to Single‑A Dunedin after signing him to a one‑year deal.
