Blue Jays debut for Valenzuela as Kirk injured

Blue Jays catcher Brandon Valenzuela makes his MLB debut on Easter Sunday, replacing injured Alejandro Kirk on the roster.

Valenzuela, 25, was called up from Triple-A Buffalo to join Tyler Heineman on the roster. Both he and Kirk are from Mexico, though there is no indication Valenzuela is related to Dodgers legend Fernando Valenzuela.

The Blue Jays acquired Valenzuela from the San Diego Padres on July 31, 2025, trading Will Wagner in return. He made 26 appearances for Triple-A Buffalo after the deal, hitting .207 with three home runs.
