Brewers Place Koenig on IL with Elbow Sprain

Milwaukee Brewers reliever Jared Koenig has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow sprain, manager Pat Murphy announced Saturday.

The injury is described as 'a big concern' by Murphy, who said Koenig will attempt to rehab the injury and avoid surgery. The expected return timeline is two to four weeks. Koenig, an 'unsung hero' for the Brewers the past two seasons, had a 2.67 ERA over 127 games before his velocity decreased this spring.

Shane Drohan has been called up to replace Koenig and could make his MLB debut at Fenway Park during the series against Boston. The left-hander was acquired from Boston in the trade for Caleb Durbin earlier this offseason.
