Brewers Replay Review Overturns Bucknor's First Base Call

A replay review at American Family Field overturned C.B. Bucknor’s call that Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers missed first base in the sixth inning. Bucknor, a 63‑year‑old umpire with a long career, had recently been involved in several overturned calls under the new challenge system.

During the sixth inning of a Brewers game at American Family Field on March 31, umpire C.B. Bucknor ruled that Jake Bauers had missed first base, calling him out. A replay review showed Bauers’ foot was on the bag, and the call was reversed, ending the inning with a ground out by Joey Ortiz.

At 63, Bucknor has umpired in MLB since 1996 and has been a frequent target of the new automated ball‑strike challenge system, which overturned several of his calls in a March 28 game between the Red Sox and Reds.
