Colorado QB Ponder Had Double Legal Limit When Died

Colorado backup quarterback Dominiq Ponder had more than double the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he died in a single-car accident March 1, according to an autopsy report.

The report obtained by USA TODAY Sports April 6 showed Ponder's blood-alcohol content was 0.167 g/100 mL. His family hopes it can serve as a lesson for young people to make responsible decisions and has started the Dominiq Ponder 722 Foundation in his honor to promote awareness.

Ponder lost control of his Tesla while negotiating a curve early in the morning, crashed through a guardrail and hit an electrical pole. Colorado coach Deion Sanders praised Ponder as being 'full of life, full of respect, hustle and hard work and integrity,' and the team plans to honor him with a jersey patch this season.
