Everton Beats Palace in Season Opener
Everton secured an impressive start to their Premier League season with a 2-0 home victory against Crystal Palace. Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall put the hosts ahead with a fine strike before halftime, and Thierno Barry doubled the advantage early in the second half with a header. betsport.cv
Norwegian striker Jørgen Strand Larsen entered as a substitute for Palace after 63 minutes but couldn't alter the outcome in his half-hour on the pitch. The match was further marred by an injury to Palace defender Chadi Riad, who had to be stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious knee injury in his league debut.

Lando Norris surges past Russell and Antonelli to take F1 Dutch GP pole
Norris comes back at the last to seal top spot
Russell wins the sprint race convincingly
What a title fight Formula One would have on its hands if McLaren could make the final steps with their car was demonstrated to dramatic effect on Saturday as Lando Norris hurled his ride around Zandvoort to claim pole position for the Dutch Grand Prix. It was a prize secured against the odds and his own expectations, hours after he had bemoaned being in no position to fulfil his hopes of mounting a successful title defence.
The car is immensely quick through the fast corners, perhaps the class of the field, but is haemorrhaging time through the slow stuff, the package not quite complete, or suboptimal as Ron Dennis would have had it. Yet Norris managed to eke out its very best across the circuit to see off the Mercedes’ of George Russell and Kimi Antonelli into second and third place. The season’s dominant car was subdued by Norris in qualifying for the second race in succession, after he took pole in Hungary.

First Test: South Africa 16-33 New Zealand
All Blacks score five tries against world champions
As first courses go, this was a delicious appetiser to a series that looks on course to live up to its billing. First blood goes to New Zealand, who withstood a barrage of South Africa scrum pressure and demonstrated a slickness that the double world champions could not live with, clinching a first win at Ellis Park since 2022.
By the end, South Africa had two men in the sin-bin and, given their status as the world’s leading side, this must goe down as a disintegration. There will be a backlash – it is hard to remember a time when South Africa were so inaccurate with the ball in hand – but credit New Zealand for producing a masterclass at weathering the storm and taking their chances.

New York Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton sustained a strained left calf, manager Aaron Boone announced on Saturday. According to Boone, Stanton's injury happened while "running, a couple of days ago." Stanton had been recovering from a right calf strain that occurred in April. With the news of the new calf strain, Stanton reportedly might miss the remainder of the 2026 season. "Everything's on the table," Boone said. Stanton hasn't appeared in a game since April 24th, when he tweaked his right calf. He played in 24 games for the Yankees before that, holding a .256 batting average and .724 OPS. New York (73-55) sits three games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for the lead of the AL East, and holds a four-game advantage over the Boston Red Sox for the top Wild Card spot in the American League. The Yankees are 9.5 games clear of missing the postseason. They're staying above water despite Stanton's absence, and without superstar outfielder Aaron Judge, as well as OF Cody Bellinger and LHP Max Fried. Judge sustained a stress fracture in his ribs on April 26, but played through the pain until being shut down in the end of May. He's progressed to taking swings off a tee, and could return in September. Fried was recently placed on the 15-day injured list with a bone bruise in his left elbow, whereas Bellinger could return as soon as Sunday from a left hamstring strain he sustained in late July.
