Johan Hoel emerged victorious in the 53km classic race at Toppidrettsveka on Hitra on Friday evening. The Norwegian skier and Swedish Tage Borjesson battled for the win after establishing a significant lead over the rest of the field. "I didn't expect this before the start today. I didn't think it would go this well, but I felt completely strong today," said Hoel after crossing the finish line.
In the women's category, Stina Nilsson secured the top spot after a sprint finish against Louise Lindström and Moa Ilar, completing a Swedish sweep of the podium. The 19-year-old Norwegian Leopold Strand, a double world junior champion, led the race solo for much of the distance before being caught in the final stages. syntagm.co.za
