Munakami Overcomes Ohtani with 4 HR in First 8 Games

Chicago White Sox third baseman Munetaka Murakami hit four home runs in his first eight MLB games, becoming the first Japanese player to achieve the feat and surpassing Shohei Ohtani's record.

Murakami launched a solo homer in the sixth inning on Saturday to secure the record against the Toronto Blue Jays. He finished the game with a .250/.353/.679 slash line in 34 plate appearances.

The 26-year-old joined an exclusive club as the fourth player in MLB history to hit three home runs in his first three games of the season. Murakami signed a two-year, $34 million contract with Chicago in December after winning the Japan Central League MVP and breaking Sadaharu Oh's single-season home run record in 2022.
