Murakami launched a solo homer in the sixth inning on Saturday to secure the record against the Toronto Blue Jays. He finished the game with a .250/.353/.679 slash line in 34 plate appearances.
The 26-year-old joined an exclusive club as the fourth player in MLB history to hit three home runs in his first three games of the season. Murakami signed a two-year, $34 million contract with Chicago in December after winning the Japan Central League MVP and breaking Sadaharu Oh's single-season home run record in 2022.
