NCAA to Appeal 5th Season Injunction

U.S. District Judge Charlotte Sweeney granted a class-wide injunction allowing high school class of 2022 athletes a fifth season of eligibility, which the NCAA plans to appeal.

The Colorado-based ruling will allow all Division I players from the high school class of 2022 who exhausted their fourth season this spring to compete again this school year. While the appeal proceeds, the transfer portal will open from August 3-10 for newly eligible athletes.

NCAA President Charlie Baker expressed concerns about roster chaos, while Judge Sweeney stated players would suffer "irreparable harm" without the injunction. The ruling comes after a Tennessee court granted a fifth season to 19 basketball players, with the Colorado case applying to all Division I players who started college in 2022-23. esporist.com
