Ron Francis stepping down as Kraken president

Ron Francis will step down as president of hockey operations at the end of the season, the Seattle Kraken announced Wednesday.

The 63-year-old Francis was promoted from general manager last April after the Kraken fired coach Dan Bylsma. The decision was mutually agreed upon as the team struggles with a 32-34-11 record, having lost 10 of their last 11 games and tied for the fourth-fewest points (75) in the NHL.

"Ron and I agreed that this is the right moment to make a thoughtful transition," co-owner Tod Leiweke said. Francis has led the team since its inception, guiding them to their first playoff appearance in 2022-23 before being eliminated in the second round. The Kraken are facing their third straight season without a playoff berth.
