Storm Dave Halts Durham-Kent County Championship Match

Storm Dave caused extensive damage to Durham’s Banks Home Riverside, leading to the cancellation of the day‑three County Championship match against Kent.

Storm Dave’s gale‑force winds battered Durham’s Banks Home Riverside, blowing covers off the pitch and knocking scaffolding over the sightscreen. Heavy rain soaked the wicket, making one end too damp for play after a 3.40 pm inspection.

With the ground closed for safety, it reopened at lunchtime, but the umpires ruled the match abandoned. Head coach Adam Hollioake likened the scene to a war zone and said the water on the wicket would have made a start difficult. Durham had led 221 at the end of Saturday after a 335‑run first innings, but the game was called off on day three.
