The match turned on its head after Colorado took a 2-0 lead through goals from Paxten Aaronson and Keegan Rosenberry. Toronto cut the deficit when Richie Layera scored in the 65th minute before Colorado's Miguel Navarro was sent off in the 74th minute, leaving both teams at 10 men. The Rapids' Zack Steffen then committed an atrocious own goal to level the score before Josh Sargent, who joined Toronto in February for a record fee, scored his first MLS goal in the 85th minute to secure the win.
The win came despite Toronto also playing with 10 men after Raheem Edwards was sent off in the 52nd minute. Colorado now becomes the second club to receive three red cards in a single game this season, joining the Houston Dynamo.
