Yankees' Lombard Jr. Homers In Debut

George Lombard Jr. homered in his big league debut, becoming the first Yankees shortstop to accomplish the feat in a 2-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. The 21-year-old drove an 0-2 sweeper from Hunter Dobbins into the left-field seats in the fifth inning, giving New York a 2-0 lead.

Lombard, who is the sixth-youngest Yankees player since 1985 to make his debut, also helped Ryan Weathers pitch six strong innings by starting inning-ending double plays in the second and fifth. Derek Jeter remains the youngest shortstop debutant in Yankees history at 20 years, 337 days.
