Scherzer's letter helped him return to Jays

Max Scherzer revealed his 8-year-old daughter's handwritten letter to the Blue Jays was a factor in his decision to return to Toronto on a $3 million, one-year contract.

After signing with the Blue Jays last week, Scherzer described his daughter Brooke's note as 'the cutest thing you can possibly imagine.' The letter, written when she was sending Christmas wishes to Santa, asked the team to re-sign her father and expressed hope they would win the World Series next season.

Scherzer, who came close to winning a championship with Toronto last season, said he wanted to return because 'this team can win.' The 41-year-old pitcher, dealing with a thumb injury much of last year, said he now feels healthy and is ready for the upcoming season.
