The Warrenton 8th grade girls captured the middle school state championship on Sunday, defeating Madras/Warm Springs 60‑52 in the final. After a 5‑1 weekend, the team also beat Yamhill‑Carlton 52‑40 and Crescent Valley 45‑17, and overcame a halftime deficit to win the title.
The squad, made up of six eighth‑graders and four seventh‑graders, has had six players together for five years, giving them a strong chemistry that helped them secure the victory.
